25 januari 2021
Op 25 januari zal niemand minder dan James Nottingham onze gastspreker zijn. Het webinar zal in het Engels gegeven worden.
Developing Student Efficacy
Self-efficacy (from Albert Bandura, 1977) is the belief a person has about their abilities to create a new outcome. Students with high self-efficacy approach a task with the sense that they can ‘work it out’; those with low self-efficacy believe there is very little they can do to improve things, particularly if they struggle or fail. Useful synonyms for self-efficacy include potency and influence; it is also closely related to growth mindset.
During this webinar, we will be joined by James Nottingham, creator of the Learning Pit. Together, we will explore the following:
- Some of the best ways to build students’ self-efficacy (as well as the things to avoid)
- The relationship between self-efficacy, self-esteem and student learning
- How the Pygmalion Effect intersects with the Galatea Effect and how they both relate to self-efficacy
- How to place more of an emphasis on ‘progress’ so that students develop self-efficacy and growth mindset – as well as better grades
- An in-depth Q&A with James
